Monitoring and Control / Automation Engineer
The AquaBioTech Group is looking for a qualified individual to work on the design, development, programming, simulating and testing of automated processes and equipment for various aquatic / aquaculture projects relating to the aquaponic / hydroponic and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) facilities for fish and shrimp species in hatcheries and grow-out operations that the company supplies to its international clients. The successful candidate will be working alongside our team of international staff on certain projects within the company as well as assisting in areas such as product procurement and testing, project oversight and commissioning.
SYNOPSIS OF POSITION OFFERED
A position within the AquaBioTech Group has arisen for a suitably qualified person to work on a variety of projects within the Group’s diverse portfolio. The position is described as Monitoring and Control / Automation Engineer.
The responsibilities of the selected candidate are focused as follows:
• Organise, develop and document technical designs for monitoring, control, and automation systems
• Specify equipment and component needed to complete the systems
• Programming and interfacing of the equipment using SCADA system
• Simulating, installing and testing electrical or mechanical automation
• Perform work within budget and schedule, and provide appropriate feedback to project manager for workload, schedule, and cost management.
• Collaborate with other business units, clients, customers or end-users to understand and develop automation process that can improve workflow
• Provide proactive input and solutions to the engineering organisation for continuous workflow improvement
There will also be the need to travel to help supervise overseas installations and project commissioning.
Reporting directly to the Design & Engineering Manager, the position is requiring a person who is highly motivated and self-organised. The selected person must be prepared to work to tight deadlines in isolated and multi-functional projects and in conjunction with a team of international staff based at our head-office in Malta, as well as staff who are based at the project sites.
Qualifications Overview
A successful candidate is likely to have a solid background in automation, process control, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering, preferably with at least a B.Eng. level of education, although experience-based candidates are encouraged to apply. Experience/specialisation in aquaculture recirculation technology will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will need to possess knowledge and ability to safely work with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
The selected candidate will have a number of assignments to develop and work on simultaneously but will also be expected to become involved in the overall marketing and promotion of the AquaBioTech Group’s services so as to ensure that a continuous stream of work comes into the company.
The selected candidate will have to speak and write English fluently and be a clear communicator. Knowledge of any other languages would be considered an asset, although not essential.
The selected candidate must have a clear passport with no travel restrictions or legal convictions and be in possession of a clean driving licence. Applicants must be prepared to travel at short notice as part of international assignments the company is awarded.
Financial Package
The successful candidate will be offered a long-term, fixed-term contract with the company. The starting package offered for this position will be structured largely upon the chosen candidate, reflecting the experience the candidate brings to the company, but also in line with the cost of living in Malta and could include an accommodation package, if required.
