This year’s annual meeting of PrAEctiCe project took place in Dar Es Salaam and the area of Jangwani. Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) was the host, and they made sure that everything is organised in the most sufficient way. The partners spent 3 full days in Tanzania, having the chance to meet again after a long year. AquaBioTech Group is proud partner of this project and is responsible for the mapping of Integrated Aqua-Agriculture practices in East Africa (https://praectice.eu/integrated-agriculture-aquaculture-map/), the design and installation of the monitoring system in the sites of our partners (https://praectice.eu/praectice-completes-living-labs-monitoring-system-installation/), as well as providing technical advises for the aquaculture part of the project.
Our company was represented by our aquaculture consultant Thanasis Chantzaropoulos, who attended two full days of presenting the work that was carried out and the results during the first half of the project. Two days of discussing what are the next steps of the project and how the interactive Decision Support Tool (being developed by our partners in the University of Maribor, with input from all partners) will operate. A lot of time was also dedicated to finalize the details of the upcoming AgroEcology Summit (https://praectice.eu/praectice-online-agroecology-summit/).
On the last day, the partners had the opportunity to travel to the Morogoro area and the facilities of the training centre of Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania in Vianzi (https://www.kilimo.org/what-we-do/farmer-training-centre). Almost in the middle of nowhere, SAT has established (with minimum budget) their farmer training centre, creating an efficient and self-dependent community farming plants, livestock and fish in a circular economy model. Next to the farming areas, training and processing facilities were built, as well as offices, stores, kitchen-dining hall, and accommodation apartments. The facilities are using solar power as their only energy source.
All their products supply the local market of Morogoro and even the market of Dar Es Salaam, providing valuable income for their local partners nearby. This Farming Training Centre is the perfect example of how money from local Public and International funds, are well used and spent and how people should come together in forming similar communities-cooperation in East Africa and the whole of the Sub-Saharan region in general. AquaBioTech Group, is proud of having installed the water quality monitoring system and providing support in the aquaculture operations of SAT.
A huge thank to our valuable partner (and more importantly, our friends) in Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania for their warm hospitality.
