Immediate Vacancy: Mechanical Design Engineer

AquaBioTech Group is seeking to employ a proven Mechanical Design Engineer to work on infrastructure planning, construction and reporting of various aquaculture international projects that the Company is involved in, as well as the Company’s own internal projects. The successful candidate will be working alongside our multi-disciplinary team of international staff in our design, engineering technology services (DETS) department.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this position, preference will be given to EU / EEA / UK passport holders or TCNs presently residing in the EU with the required permits. If the position remains unfilled, we will consider other experienced candidates.

Overview of associated tasks

A position of Mechanical Design Engineer within AquaBioTech Group has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced person to work on a variety of projects within the Group’s diverse portfolio. The responsibilities of the selected candidate may include, but are not limited to:

Key Accountabilities

  • To work on the infrastructure design of a variety of projects within the Group’s diverse portfolio dealing with Aquaculture systems, using the latest design software tools in addition to hand calculations. Calculations will include sizing pumps, pipes, heat pumps and other filtration equipment used in RAS facilities.
  • The engineer will be required to use Plant 3D / 2D CAD and Inventor as these 2D software’s are used to compile P&IDs & Hydraulic profiles.
  • The candidate will need to help in the preparation of detailed plans, engineering calculations, specification lists and Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for these projects, as well as value engineering exercises.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure that each project is correctly allocated time and resources to undertake the required tasks, as well as work to budgets and deadlines thus keeping projects on track.
  • Assist with the supervision of international installations and equipment commissioning, as well as be part of the handover training and documentation.
  • Candidates with experience using REVIT will be given priority given their abilities to assist in the BIM team with their work in key periods.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the company.

This position is demanding, requiring a person who is scientifically orientated, self-motivated, methodical, and organised, while capable of helping organise others. The selected person must be prepared to work to very tight deadlines in isolated and multi-functional projects and in conjunction with a team of international staff.

Qualifications Overview

A successful candidate is likely to have a good background in Mechanical Engineering, with at least a first-degree level of education and at least 4 to 5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering systems, design site installation and working with a team of engineers. Design experience and knowledge is a must.
Experience / specialisation in water treatment technologies, hydraulics experience, design of pipe systems, employment of large pumps, filtration and high-water rates will be considered an asset.

A master’s degree specialising in related engineering aspects will be considered an asset.

The selected candidate will have several assignments to work on but will also be expected to become involved in team-driven efforts to promote AquaBioTech Group’s services. The selected candidate will need to be fluent in the English Language and be an excellent communicator. Knowledge of any other languages would be considered an asset, although not essential.

The selected candidate must have a clean EU / EEA / UK passport OR be a third-country national (TCN) presently residing in the EU with no travel restrictions or legal convictions and be in possession of a clean driving licence. Applicants must be prepared to travel at short notice as part of international assignments the company is awarded.

Financial Package

The successful candidate will be offered a long-term, fixed-term contract with the company. The starting package offered for this position will be structured largely upon the chosen candidate, reflecting the experience the candidate brings to the company, but also in line with the cost of living in Malta and could include an accommodation package, if required.
