Immediate Vacancy: Clean-Down & Biosecurity Technician

Working with a team of technicians, this position requires the selected candidate to work in the company’s aquatic research facility based in Malta, the largest private facility of its kind in Europe.  The activities carried out at the facility include work on various aquatic organism, record keeping, and cleaning of facility and laboratory spaces; the candidate would be partially involved in aspects of the daily operations as well as being involved in specific research assignments.

Synopsis of position offered

This position is only open for EU/EEA/UK passport holders or TCNs presently residing in the EU with the required permits.

A position within the AquaBioTech Group has arisen for a suitably qualified person to work as a Clean-Down & Biosecurity Technician at our R&D facility known as ABT Innovia. The responsibilities of the selected candidate are defined as follows: –

 

  • Cleaning of Facility and Laboratories spaces within ABT Innovia, following safety and biosecurity protocols
  • Cleaning and Disinfecting tanks and filtration systems within the facility
  • Properly maintaining walkways and work areas clean including floors, corridors and drains
  • Assume responsibility of waste management within ABT Innovia facility
  • Record keeping for cleaning schedules.
  • Carryout out small repair and finishing jobs assigned, liaising with the company’s Installations and Maintenance when required
  • Assist other technicians with animal care (aquatic organisms) assignments

Reporting directly to the R&D Facilities Manager, the position requires a person who is highly organised and has an eye for detail.  The selected person must be prepared to work according to different shifts within the facility, in conjunction with a team of international staff.  AquaBioTech Group has also been awarded, and is continuously seeking to win more, research projects funded by local government and the EU.

Qualifications and Experience Overview

The successful candidate is likely to have a background and experience in a similar role, familiar with aquaculture sciences or practices, preferably with at least a basic level of education, although experienced technician candidates are also encouraged to apply. Experience in laboratory operating procedures and GMP and GLP is also a bonus, but not essential as all training in these procedures will be provided.

The selected candidate will be required to speak and write English fluently, and knowledge of any other languages would be considered an asset, although not essential.

The selected candidate must have a clean EU / EEA  passport OR be a third-country national (TCN) presently residing in the EU with no travel restrictions or legal convictions and be in possession of a clean driving licence.

Financial Package

The successful candidate will be offered a long-term, fixed-term contract with the company.  The starting package offered for this position will be structured upon the chosen candidate, reflecting the experience the candidate brings to the company, but also in line with the cost of living in Malta and could include an accommodation package, if required.
