Immediate Vacancy: Microbiology and Ecotoxicology Technician

The AquaBioTech Group is seeking to employ a Microbiology and Ecotoxicology Technician with experience in a GMP environment to help support the laboratories.  The position requires personnel with a solid background of knowledge in biology and the capability to solve problems and work in a team.

 Synopsis of position offered

The roles of the position include:

  • Serum extraction from blood samples.
  • Media preparation with a quality control check.
  • Dilutions of micro organisms.
  • Cryopreservation with respective growth curves.
  • Use of diagnostic methods and identification of microorganisms
  • Microbiology surface sampling of aquaculture facilities.
  • Maintenance of algal cultures.
  • Performing ecotoxicology trials according to the OECD guidelines.
  • Assistance with European projects assigned to the Labs team.
  • Planning and checking verification, calibration and mapping of equipment and glassware, coordinating calibration / maintenance of equipment and update the corresponding records.
  • Maintaining up-to-date inventories of chemical and microorganism stocks.
  • Aid in the liaison with clients, scientific preparation or studies, and reporting of projects.
  • The candidate should also demonstrate flexibility in performing other laboratory tasks needed of them.

Reporting directly to the Lab Supervisor, the position is demanding requiring a person who is highly motivated and self-organised. The selected person must be prepared to work to a tight schedule and in conjunction with multiple departments in AquaBioTech.

Qualifications Overview

The ideal candidate would have an MQF Level 6 qualification in Biology or other related scientific discipline.  Previous experience in a microbiology laboratory, ideally within a GMP/GLP environment.

The selected candidate will have to speak and write English fluently, have a firm grasp of mathematics, biology and basic lab techniques. They will also need to possess strong communication skills, be able to work under pressure and have a positive attitude.

The selected candidate must have a clean EU / EEA passport OR be a third-country national (TCN) presently residing in the EU with no travel restrictions or legal convictions and be in possession of a clean driving licence.

Financial Package

The successful candidate will be offered a long-term, fixed-term contract with the company that can be extended. The starting package offered for this position will be structured largely upon the chosen candidate, reflecting the experience the candidate brings to the company, but also in line with the cost of living in Malta and could include an accommodation package, if required.
